MLB will spotlight Bond’s run at mark, sponsors are wary critiqued by John G. v8, i47, pg5

After a summer of steroids accusations major league baseball will still market bond’s run at Hank Aaron’s homer run record. At the start of the 2006 season Bonds was only six away from Babe Ruth and major league baseball is ready to celebrate that only locally is the San Francisco area which is the normal procedure for this mile stone. Major league baseball is also ready for a national marketing scheme if or when bonds break Aaron’s record and will include corporate sponsors. In years past major league baseball have celebrated mile stones such as Mark McGuire braking the single season homer run record and bonds for the same as well as bonds breaking the five, six, and seven hundred marks for home runs. With bonds at 708 at the beginning of the season babe Ruth is very much possible this season but Aaron’s 755 mark may not be this season but if bonds comes back for a second season it could become a reality and that’s when major league baseball will go national. But remember bonds did hit 73 home runs just a couple of years ago. Pepsi Cola as agreed to be a silent sponsor in this by letting bonds appear in a Pepsi adds but wants to be careful not to send the wrong message to its young costumers and what the meaning of achievement is in this country.
